Chiropractic and Pregnancy
Chiropractic care can help with the back discomforts of pregnancy. Your body has normal bio-mechanical or structural components that allow for everyday activities without unusual stresses.
With pregnancy, the growth of the baby stresses these structural components to adapt to that growth. If preexisting imbalances are present in the spine, pelvis, or extremities, the body will have difficulty adapting to the new stresses imposed on it.
For example, as the baby develops, the uterus also enlarges. The pelvic uterine bowl is normally in a balanced state, and the ligaments connected to the pelvis are in a supportive state. If your pelvis and its ligaments are in any way out of balance, these can cause a condition called constraint of the uterus. The constraint limits the space of the baby in-utero.
Conditions such as torticollis occur with the baby developing in a cramped uterine space. And the baby may experience difficulty during the birthing process with the positioning needed for the proper birthing. It may be difficult for the baby to align itself properly through the birth canal.
Specific adjustments to the spine and pelvic and even extremities can alleviate the these stresses on you and your baby. Chiropractic care throughout the pregnancy is beneficial to both the mom and baby.
